Embezzlement claim follows missing money from Colorado store

Running a business takes a great deal of skill and commitment. Even those who want to see a business become successful can easily make a mistake -- especially if that person has multiple job responsibilities -- that could look suspicious to others. Unfortunately, a man in Colorado is now charged with embezzlement after law enforcement officials claim that that he stole money from his employer, a business that he originally owned.

The incident involves a liquor store. The man now accused and a partner reportedly bought the business in 2016. However, because the former reportedly has a criminal history, reports claim that he was unable to obtain a liquor license, prompting him to seek out his business partner's mother about buying him out. The woman ultimately agreed to do so. However, the man stayed on as an employee of the business.

At one point, reports indicate that he fired the accountant for the business and offered to fulfill the responsibilities until a replacement could be found. Unfortunately, the new business owner reportedly became concerned when some checks bounced due to insufficient funds; the previous owner blamed it on theft from other employees, prompting the woman to hire a forensic accountant who claims to have discovered that the former owner was directing credit card payments to his personal accounts rather than to business accounts. He was fired though he denied any wrongdoing.

The man now faces criminal charges as a result of the alleged embezzlement, including theft of between $100,000 and $1 million, a felony. Often cases involving such accusations are complex and can have severe consequences upon a conviction. As a result, most people in Colorado facing such accusations want an attorney by their side who is willing to fight aggressively for them.
